America's cheese land was again the site of the World Championship Cheese Competition.... and once again Wisconsin cheeses dominated the competition. The two day event held in Madison featured over 26 hundred entries from 22 counties. The top honor went to a Swiss cheesemaker for his outstanding Schweizer Rohmlich Emmentaler .... with the first runner-up coming from a team of cheesemakers from Austria. 4 Wisconsin cheesemakers did make the finals, including La Clare Farms from Fond du Lac County and BelGioioso Cheese from Green Bay. All toll, U.S. Cheesemakers won Gold Medals in 59 of the 90 categories and among the U.S. winners.... Wisconsin Cheese Makers captured 33 of the Gold Medals. State Secretary of Agriculture Ben Brancel praised Wisconsin Cheesemakers for their skills, craftsmanship and dedication to the industry...and for the over 600 varieties of high quality, award winning cheeses they produce.
