National Love for Leinie's Summer Shandy

by Paul Heling

As posted by our Jeff Flynt in our Food and Drink Blog.

It's a rite of passage for many in the Midwest in the summer. Lakeside, toes in the sand and a cold Leinenkugel Summer Shandy in hand.

At least that's how the marketing folks at the ol' Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company will try to convince you of.

But NBC's Today Show has bought into the concept as well.

According to contributor Jim Galligan, Summer Shandy beat out three other beers of the shandy variety in a taste test.

Aside from Galligan's promotion of a homemade shandy, he recommends those less adventurous when it comes to Mixology go out and stock up on Leinie's.

Galligan sums it up by saying, "Shandies aren’t the most complex or nuanced offerings in the world, but when the sweat is sliding down your back, there’s nothing quite as quenching as a sweet lemony treat."

While I'm skeptical of the idea that trend predictors believe shandies will take over U.S. taste buds in 2013, I do feel this big vote of confidence for Leinenkugel nationwide will help Wisconsin continue to get itself on the map as a pivotal craft beer state for thirsty travelers.
