EVERYTHING EVERGREENS (FOX SPORTS WAUSAU-WSAU) For the second year in a row Mother Nature hasn't been kind to area baseball teams. The Evergreens will go 9 days between games because of the weather, and today's game against Shawano isn't likely to be made up. Shawano's last four games were rained and snowed out, and the Everest game (non-conference against a bigger school) is the lowest priority for a make-up. Both teams have open dates on Sunday and Monday, but there's no guarantee for a playable field or for umpire availability on short notice.
Tonight Wausau East will play a game, even though their home field wont be ready for another week. Theyll travel to the new baseball complex in Mauston against Nekoosa, and then play a doubleheader against Marshfield down there on Saturday. The only thing that's left to chance is the game time temperature. It'll be in the 30s when tonight's game wraps up.
The Mauston complex has been busy because of the late-arriving spring. They charge a reasonable $275 per game under the lights, and the natural turf fields can literally be swept clear of any snow. The time may be coming when numerous Valley Conference schools schedule their first two or three games 'down there' before heading north for their first home games.
