PREVIEW - Antigo

by Chris Conley

EVERYTHING EVERGREENS (FOX SPORTS WAUSAU-WSAU) You have to respect a team with a 19-1 record. Antigo's only loss is to Racine-Horlick by two runs. Their record may not be as good as it seems; games against two tough opponents (SPASH and Ashwaubenon) were rained out and weren't rescheduled. The Great Northern Conference may be one-level below the Wisconsin Valley Conference. That doesn't matter. Antigo was undefeated in-league this year. The Evergreens are 2-0 against Great Northern teams this season.

The biggest advantage in all of high school sports is to be a baseball team with a first-round bye. By not having to play on Tuesday, Antigo gets to set up their pitching staff. By having to play, the Evergreens spent their best pitcher in a 9-1 win over Rhinelander. Several Evergreens hitters are trending upward: Wyatt Brown, Kodie Kocher, Brady Borrell and Mason Hagenbucher have become live-bats towards the end of the season. Mike Plaza and Alex Kell have cooled off.

Today's win-or-go-home game is scheduled for first pitch at 5pm in Antigo. Because of the Woodchucks vs. Lakeland game, the on-air broadcast will be on tape-delay around 9pm. We'll post the podcast of the Everest-Antigo game immediately at EverythingEvergreens.com.
