EVERYTHING EVERGREENS (FOX SPORTS WAUSAU-WSAU) On Tuesday we'll test the old adage that good pitching stops good hitting. And the pitchers will have an added advantage.
SPASH, the best pitching team in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, plays DC Everest with the Evergreens coming off a 9-day rest. Everest had been averaging 10 hits a game. It remain to be seen if time off or a good-pitching opponent changes that. With the way the Evergreens had been hitting, losing two games last week is a shame and could only serve to cool off their bats.
SPASH comes into Tuesday's game with a 3-1 record, having spilt a doubleheader with Green Bay Preble last weekend. (SPASH was scheduled to host Rhinelander on Monday, weather-permitting). Austin Reed worked only one inning in a 4-0 SPASH loss on Saturday; he may be the starting pitcher against Everest. SPASH won the other game in Green Bay, 9-0, on a Cal Giese 1-hitter. The Evergreens will have their full pitching staff rested and available. Its likely Brady Borrell will start, although Im excited to see more of Austin Solomon (who hasnt pitched since opening day 12 days ago).
The Evergreens are 2-1, with wins over Wisconsin Rapids and Oconomowc and a loss to Kenosha-Indian Trails. Mike Plaza has been prolific at the plate, going 7-for-12 to open the season.
Tuesday's game from Bokholt Park begins at 4:30pm. The broadcast will be on tape delay after the Wausau-East vs. Wausau-West game around 7pm on Fox Sports AM-1390 FM-93.9.
