EVERYTHING EVERGREENS (FOX SPORTS WAUSAU-WSAU) The DC Everest and Wausau West football programs have been dead-even in recent years. They've split their last 6 meetings. West has come away with road wins in their last two visits to Everest.
Last year's loss was particularly tough to swallow. West arrived at Stiehm Stadium with
an 0-2
record and an injured starting quarterback. Everest entered the game coming off a convincing shutout win a week earlier. West coached-up their back-up, played stout defense, and burned the Evergreens on a gadget play for a 17-12 win. It felt like a low point of the season. The
take-away
from the game was that West had more things in their
gameplan
that worked than Everest did.
This year both teams arrive with 1-3 records, with West playing their best game of the season a week ago. Chandler Fochs, rumored to be a baseball only athlete at the start of the season, was 13-of-15 passing against Hortonville. Mitch Michalske was a 100-yard rusher a week ago. The Evergreens played better in the second half than the first in their 35-26 win over Appleton-East. They got off to a very slow
start,
but played lights out in the second half.
Everest is the bigger team. It would be nice to show the home fans that the team has improved since the lopsided losses in weeks 1 and 2. West has more accomplished skill players. It's another winnable game for the Evergreens that will turn on mistakes and execution.
