PREVIEW - Marshfield

by Chris Conley

EVERYTHING EVERGREENS (FOX SPORTS WAUSAU-WSAU) Marshfield is a better team than they showed during a 7-1 loss to Everest earlier this month. It was also the Evergreen's best win of the season, with the team playing well in all three areas of the game: pitching, hitting, and defense.

Once again today well see the two best hitters in the Wisconsin Valley Conference on the same field. Daulton Varsho reached base only once in the earlier game. He's still hitting .387 in conference games with 3-home runs. Varsho reportedly has a hitting machine in his family's barn, and probably takes more BP than anyone in the league. Mike Plaza is hitting .462 for the season and had home runs in his last two games.

Both teams played doubleheaders on Saturday, so they may be pitching-thin today. Marshfield may also be looking ahead to their Thursday home game against SPASH. Their chances of catching the first-place Panthers are slim, and will be none if they lose to the Evergreens today.

Our game is scheduled for a tape-delay broadcast at 7:30pm. Well move into the 'live' slot on Fox Sports AM-1390 FM-93.9 if Wausau-East's game is cancelled. The Wausau area took a lot of rain last night, and the drainage problems at East's field are legendary. Marshfield got some rain yesterday, but not as much as here.
