EVERYTHING EVERGREENS (FOX SPORTS WAUSAU-WSAU) The annual D.C. Everest baseball triangular is this Saturday, and as sure as God made little green apples we're playing baseball. This will bring the latest 7-day season-stop to an end. The Evergreens sat idle for 9-days earlier this season because of weather.
The Evergreens have been the most active of the three teams playing. Rhinelander has only managed one game so far this season, although they are scheduled to play today at Tomahawk if the field is in-shape. Rhinelander has played only 5-innings of baseball so far this season, and is still looking for its first hit of the year. They were no-hit 10-days ago against SPASH.
The Gladstone Braves have a three-and-a-half hour bus ride from just north of Escanaba, Michigan before they arrive at Simon Field. Their season is also off to a light start because of the late-arriving spring.
The Evergreens will play Rhinelander at 11am. Rhinelander will play Gladstone at 1:30pm. Everest will play Gladstone at 4pm. Both of the Everest games will be on Fox Sports Radio AM-1390 FM-93.9.
The Evergreens are the best of the three times, and are likely to climb back above .500 with two wins. It will be another weekend of makeshift pitching, as Everest has four games next week three against Wisconsin Valley Conference opponents. That stretch of games starts Monday against Wausau-West after Thursday's rain-out. I expect the Evergreens will save their ace pitcher, Brady Borrell (3-1) for the West game.
