How Much Money Do You Have On You Right Now?

If your wallet isn't exactly stuffed with cash, you aren't alone. 40% of U.S. adults carry less than $20 in cash on a daily basis, according to Bankrate.com's Financial Security Index survey. Instead of cash, we pack our wallets with debit cards and credit cards and load up our smartphones with electronic payment apps.

How much (or little) cash is in our wallets?

  • Less than $20: 40%
  • Between $20 and $50: 29%
  • Between $50 and $100: 12%
  • Between $100 and $250: 5%
  • More than $250: 2%
  • Don't carry cash: 9%
  • Don't know: 2%
