Sounds from Music City

by Mark Daniels

The Packers are back home from Nashville, Music City, after their wet blanket Pre-Season opener, a 20-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans in a driving rainstorm much of the night. Mike McCarthy admitted it was a difficult game to evaluate considering the weather. He also dealt with issues ranging from his streaky play calling sheet and communication headsets that cut in and out. All things considered, he got a touchdown on the opening series from a starting offense quarterbacked by Matt Flynn and James Starks toting the mail six times including his 20 yard TD dash. A defense had two quick stops. All of the young guys got in, his clothes got soaked and come to think of it, he was more like Gene Kelly, just singin' in the rain:

Here's a little more sound from Music City, from two of the three quarterbacks who played. Both Flynn and Scott Tolzien engineered touchdown drives. Flynn had the more severe weather to deal with, but Tolzien played an awfully smart game, including a very heads up fumble recovery after the ball slipped out of his hands.

The competition continues this week, an odd week, with closed practices Monday and Tuesday, a public practice Wednesday followed by the cool down work Thursday, a trip to St. Louis Friday and a date with Rams Saturday afternoon. We'll cover it all.
