I'm an Apple guy. The I-pod was what hooked me originally but I also have an I-mac and have used an I-phone since making the switch from the little flip phones so popular in the 2000's. but I have never used the device to it's maximum capability…not even close. Texting, Facebook and Twitter eat up enough time without adding countless apps to suck up more. I had been using an outdated I Phone 4 until yesterday when, on a whim, I went in and upgraded to the I-phone 6. I know all the arguments…better camera, bigger screen, yada yada, yada…but my old 4 did what I wanted it to do and change comes hard. I expected the changover to be more difficult than it was and the 6 is a thing of beauty. And, I'm telling myself I'm going to use more of its capabilites. We shall see if that happens. At least my pictures should look alot better.
And I also know that the above is a first world problem. I know I am blessed to be able to afford this technology when so many are struggling to make ends meet. Make no mistake, I appreciate what I have.
Are you going to Big Taste tonight? It's the fun fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters at Granite Peak from 5-8 and is probably the best tasting fundraiser in the area. I don't know if any tickets remain but you can contact Big Brother/Big Sisters to find out. Sample food and drink from many of the area's top chefs and brewers.
The short-handed Bucks got stomped by the Knicks last night. It was a huge, hot crowd at the Bradley Center and they had to be disappointed. Just remember that the team didnt have either of their starting forwards available and OJ Mayo, a key bench guy, was also out. Newest Buck Greg Monroe played well though so let's wait and see what this team can do when everyone is on the court.
Kobe Bryant set an NBA record last night suiting up for a 20th season with the Lakers…the most by a player with one team.
Too bad for Jerry Kill. The Minnesota Gopher football coach announced yesterday that he is retiring because of his health. He has turned around the struggling program and it's too bad that he won't be able to see it through. From what I'm told he's a good guy too…that can be rare in big time college football.
The KC Royals are just too good. I'll be shocked if they don't finish the job…maybe a sweep. Their hitters don't strike out and their pitchers are too tough. Johnny Cueto with the first complete game in a World Series by an American League pitcher since Jack Morris for the Twins in 1991. So now the lights out bullpen has two full days of rest. The Mets hitters know they have a big task at hand.
A couple of big anniversarys today… in 1971 Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle crash at the age of 24 cutting off a brilliant musical career….and Muhammad Ali beat George Foreman in Zaire to regain the heavyweight title in 1974. To this day Foreman says the Ali camp put something on Ali's gloves that blinded him.
A number of area volleyball and boys soccer teams will be in sectional action tonight. Marshfield will be the sight of a couple of D-1 volleyball matches as the Tigers face River Falls and DC Everest battles Eau Claire Memorial. Merrill plays West Salem at Stevens Point…Witt/Birn takes on Oshkosh Lourdes at Bayport…Spencer and Stanley/Boyd square off at Edgar…and Wausau Newman plays Rapids Assumption at Greenwood. In boys soccer…Pulaski is at Marshfield…Medford at Rice Lake…Lakeland at New London…and La Crosse Aquinas at Marshfield Columbus
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
Rock Lobster-B-52's (1978) the song that introduced most of us to the band from Athens Ga. Played it many times at the Free Spirit nightclub where the entire dance floor would be on their backs doing the gator.
