VILLAGE OF WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Friends and family have identified the man shot during an argument at the Kelly Club in Weston last month as 28-year-old Dylan Worthen.
According to a news release, he was shot twice in the abdomen and required multiple surgeries to remove portions of his spleen and pancreas. Additionally, he was on a breathing tube for over a week due to a collapsed lung.
Following those procedures, he spent about a week in rehab and is now resting at home to continue his recovery.
Due to the nature of his recovery and the amount of intensive care needed to recover, friends and family have announced plans for a Dylan Strong fundraiser at Trailside Sports Bar and Grill in Weston on June 29th.
Leanna Holzem is leading the charge to organize the event. “It will consist of a bag toss tournament starting at 3 PM, we will have tons of basket raffles and silent auction items, and we are getting live entertainment,” she said.
The group is working with local businesses and seeking donations to keep their overhead costs as low as possible so all money raised will go directly to the family.
“A full, 100% recovery is going to take a very long time,” she added. “Obviously, he can’t go to work at all, at least for a very long time. There’s no way that he is going to be able to bring income in at this point in time so our friends and family have rallied to help him.”
The bean bag tournament will cost $30 per team. Already announced basket prizes include a diamond necklace from Jim Kryshak Jewelers, a bloody mary basket from Razzy’s Bar, and a “Keep er Moving” basket from the Manitowoc Minute’s Charlie Berens.
Holzem says his friends and family chose not to release his name or condition until now to keep from being overwhelmed with questions and support during the difficult time. “We wanted to make sure he would get through all the intensive care that he had to endure. We wanted him to get home first before we shared the news.”
Anyone who wants to sign up a bean bag team can do so by calling Trailside sports bar and grill or online through Eventbrite. If you have a basket or silent auction items to donate, you can do so by contacting Holzem at 715-297-1782 or Mike Erdman at Trailside.
