When framing your photos, look for natural lines that draw attention to your subject. In the photo below, Trestle at Twilight, you can see how the rails and tracks draw attention to the trestle in the distance.
Normally, I avoid power lines in my photos. However, in this photo, the power lines on the left also draw your attention down toward the trestle. The power lines also provide balance to the photo since there are trees and buildings on the right side of the tracks.
This photo was taken at a time photographers call, "the blue hour". The blue hour is the hour before sunrise and the hour after the sun sets. More on blue hour photography next week!
