NEWS BLOG (WSAU) A programming change on WSAU begins on Monday. We’re adding host Mark Levin to our line-up from 5p to 8p. He’ll take over the slot that had been held be Michael Savage.
If you’ve been following the story, Michael Savage was in a long-running legal dispute with his syndicator Talk Radio Network. Savage won an arbitration ruling last month, and his show was discontinued after the decision came down.
Let me introduce you to Mark.
First, I admit that I was wrong about his network show. I’d listened to Mark Levin when he was a local host on WABC in New York. He sounds like a New Yorker. I was skeptical that his show would be well-received west of the Hudson. Some people find his voice irritating. He content is so good, so interesting, you'll fight through it. 200+ affiliates can’t be wrong. (And he’s adding many more affiliates this week, as other stations make Michael Savage-replacement decisions over the next few days.)
You’ll tell right away that Levin is very smart. He’s a sharp legal mind. His strength is in area where the law and politics intersect. Levin is also a personal friend of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. He contributes to their shows and expands on many of their topics during his program.
Lastly, a word about Michael Savage. I wonder what the future holds for him. There is no radio station that can afford to keep a time-slot open for him for months on-end. Most affiliate deals are one-year. And being off-air that long is an eternity in an ratings-based business. He’s done some short internet broadcasts to small audiences. Savage will have trouble rebuilding what he had, if that’s what he wants to do. Savage could decide he’d rather be a writer, or perhaps a weekend host.
