NEWS BLOG (WSAU) First, a stipulation. An untruth isn’t a lie if it’s unintentional. You can’t lie out of ignorance.
There are two untruths told by Mandy Wright surrounding the WSAU equal time story.
The first untruth is in her commercial itself. Her candidate disclaimer says “authorized and paid for by Mandy Wright for State Assembly”. Authorized, yes. Paid for, no. As everyone who’s been following this story knows, Mandy Wright’s commercials are not paid for. Her messages are airing for free as part of a negotiated equal time agreement with WSAU. Under the FCC's equal time rules, we're not allowed to edit or alter her messages.
The second untruth is a quote in the City Pages newspaper. Mandy Wright said the following: “When anyone breaks the rules, it is important there is accountability. I’m very pleased with how we were able to come to an amicable solution.” WSAU broke no rules. The FCC has equal time regulations in case broadcasters decide to allow candidates on-air. Keeping Pat Snyder on-air was entirely at WSAU’s discretion, so long as the we made time available to competing candidates who requested it. If candidate Wright wants to explain what rules we broke, I’ll gladly offer her free commercial number-341 to do it. Otherwise, we are owed an apology.

Now, a Week 5 high school football preview:
DC Everest makes plays its second of three Fox Valley road games tonight. Appleton-East is 3-1, with all three wins coming against sub .500 teams. Road wins don’t come easy, and the Evergreens have no margin for error for the rest of the season. I still think they’re the better team.
Yesterday I was interviewed by the Everest student newspaper about being the new ‘voice of the Evergreens’. I’m looking forward to publication later this month.
Friday on Fox Sports 1390:
Wausau-East at Appleton-North, live 6:30pm
