OPINION - Savage wins, goes off-air

Posted by Chris Conley on

NEWS BLOG (WSAU) Michael Savage is off-the-air. His show on Talk Radio Network (heard on WSAU AM-FM from 5p to 8p) was discontinued across the country after an arbiter ruled in his favor.

Here’s some background on the case:

Michael Savage believes he can deliver higher ratings than Rush Limbaugh.

He wanted his syndicator, Talk Radio Network, to move his show to 12n-3p Eastern – head-to-head with The Rush Limbaugh Show. TRN refused.

The Michael Savage Show is the biggest thing on TRN, and the network feared losing many affiliates who also carry Rush. They insisted that Savage stay on at night. Savage sued to get out of his contract. (There were also reports that Savage had another syndicator that was ready to put him on in the afternoon, rumored to be Westwood One.)

TRN will offer substitute hosts to their affiliates next week, and promises a new show in Michael Savage’s time slot on October 5th. So far, communication from TRN to the local stations has been poor.

I’ll have a further announcement concerning WSAU’s plans as more information becomes available.

There’s a hollow, empty, pit-in-your-stomach feeling when victory is snatched away in a football game. You probably felt that way if you watch last Monday’s Packers-Seahawks game.

DC Everest fans and players went through that twice last weekend. The Evergreens were stung by Appleton East on a game-winning touchdown with 8-seconds left. Everest led for almost the entire game, and fumbled on the 5-yard-line earlier in the 4th quarter on a play that would have put them up by three scores.

Everest also had that feeling last year, when Wausau East stung them with a last second field goal. It was East’s first win over Everest since 2002.

DC Everest will have a size advantage for tonight’s game, but East finds ways to win games – and Everest has found ways to lose. It should be a fun night of high school football.

Tonight on Fox Sports 1390:
Wausau-East at DC Everest, 6:30pm
