A lot of things divide America today and guns is one of them. Many Americans look at Sandy Hook and believe more gun laws are the answer. Others look at Sandy Hook and believe school employees should have the right to defend themselves from guns with guns.  Those arguing for more regulation know banning assault weapons and high capacity magazines won't stop the next tragedy. They know that for their remedy to work it must involve a complete or near complete ban on guns, or make them virtually impossible to obtain. That's not going to happen anytime soon.

Studies have shown that armed law-abiding citizens do lead to less crime. But those who blame the gun will consider arming teachers an insane idea. In fact, then-Wisconsin state Representative (now Senator)Frank LaSee was ridiculed a few years back when he proposed it. 

Six years later Governor Scott Walker is now open to the idea. I'm on the side of the divide that believes we need to understand and deal with why more and more young men are committing these atrocities. Walker also strongly argued for exploring the mental health aspect of this issue. To the anti-gun crowd, the thought of more guns is ludicrous. To teachers who are trapped in a school trying to protect young children from a crazed gunman, the idea may no longer seem so crazy.
