A loyal listener shared this with me. First: does she really believe she doesn't need to fill out paperwork to buy that weapon? Two: her question about why it's harder to become a doctor than it is to own a gun is so stupid as to be frightening. 

Owning a gun is a constitutional right; becoming a doctor is not. Doctors are entrusted with people's lives. Yes, you can argue that gun owners are too. We trust they won't go on a psychotic murderous episode. We also trust them to use the gun safely. Both trusts are, from time to time, broken.

And the reality is doctors often break the trust the public has with them. And that trust is broken a lot more often than the trust be place in gunowners is. We license doctors in an effort to ensure they are competent to treat us and operate on us. When they fail that competency level, they often hide their mistakes from the public. So yes, given the self-protective network the medical profession has created, we need to make sure they know what they're doing, at least when they begin.

And she seriously believes owning a gun should be as difficult as becoming a doctor? As the listener who sent this to me points out in a post to this article; doctors kill a lot more people than guns. Perhaps are regulations on them aren't nearly stringent enough.
