This is an example of the Union winning the battle, but completely loosing the war.

What good does it do to stand firm and demand certain benefits when it costs the employee the job.  How is that protecting the worker? 

Unions have become exactly that which they fought against.  They are corrupt, short sighted, and only concerned with their own existence.
