The NFL draft always has some interesting side stories. there are always players that though they would be sleected high but end up sliding down the list. It happens for a number of reasons bu the Packers are certainly happy it happened a few years ago to AAron Rodgers. This year two QBs slid out of the first round. Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame and Colt McCoy of Texas. While Sam Bradford went Number 1 and Tim Tebow, who some say can't play QB in the NFL, went higher than expected. I don't know the reason McCoy slipped...he "only" completed all 55 of his pass attempts at his pro day workout...but Clausen's fall is being attributed by some to the Roethlisberger effect. The Steeler QB has fallen from grace with the allegations of sexual assualt and other off-field problems...and teams may be looking at Chracter more closely than they have before when it comes to the face of the franchise like a quarterback. Tebow was a safer pick than Clausen...whether he will be a better NFL QB remains to be seen.
The Cubs beat the Brewers and Jeff Suppan was booed off the mound. He's a good guy but Brewer fans have made their decision...they don't want him out there every fifth day and the booing isnt going to change unless Suppan starts pitching better and few are expecting that.
Marathon won the first battle with Wausau Newman hitting three home runs in a 3-0 win on Friday. The two Marawood South powere will play again in a few weeks probably with the conference title on the line.
Songs of the Day (from My I-pod)
Fever-Peggy Lee (1958) a Little Willie John song that has been covered by many...but the sultry Miss Lee made it her own.
Fields of Gold-Sting (1993) from his award winning CD "Ten Summoners Tales"...a tune written about a barley field near his home...the video was directed by Kevin Godley who had some musical success in the 70's with 10cc.
