A Good Night To Be A Badger

The Shark Tank was rockin in San Jose last night as they opened their 2nd round series against the Red Wings. Former Badgers Dany Heatley and Joe Pavelski led the Sharks to a 4-3 win. Heatley had a goal and an assist while Pavelski had an assist and 2 goals including the game-winner. The Plover native has turned into a top-notch scorer in this league. It looks like his Olympic experience only gave him more confidence as he leads San Jose into what they hope is a deep playoff run.

Game six is a sell-out tonight at the Bradley Center as the Bucks try to close out the Hawks and advance in the playoffs for the first time since 2001. There was actually a crowd welcoming the team back at the airport Wednesday night after midnight. Andrew Bogut tweeted that he "loves this town".

Doug Davis has always been an innings eater. He has consistently gone deep in games in his career. This year...not so much. He got lit up again last night as the Brewers dropped the opener of their West Coast trip 9-0. it was like being bitten to death by ducks as the Padres had 13 hits...all singles.

Lots of high school action yesterday. West bounced back and beat Marshfield and DC Everest edged Rhinelander in some key Valley baseball games. Also kudos to Northland Lutheran's baseball team...they have been overmatched in most of their Marawood South games this season but yesterday almost beat Wausau Newman. The Cardinals escaped with an 8-7 win in eight innings. In girls soccer, East beat West 5-0 while DC Everest topped Stevens Point for the first time in 11 years.

Songs of the Day-  (from my I-pod)

Fire-Jimi Hendrix (1967) Hendrix exploded into our conciousness in teh Summer of Love and his fiery guitar and far-out look captured the fancy of the music world. Here he is at Woodstock.

Fire & Rain-James Taylor (1971) Taylor was in a bad place when he wrote this song. A friend had commited suicide, his band the Flying Machine had failed and he was battling a drug problem. It actually was recored a year before it was a hit.
