Prince Fielder says he wants to stay in Milwaukee long-term but there's no hurry to finish a contract. There was a time when the conventional thinking said there was no way the Brewers would be able to keep Fielder. He would eventually sign with a big market team. Well, Doug Melvin was able to lock him up through 2011 but the question is now will Fielder be worth a huge free-agent contract after 2011? Let's face it, he doesnt have a great body and the potential for injury problems is there. If it's a choice down the road between Braun and Fielder longterm I think the obvious answer is Braun. Fielder has certainly improved his defensive work but you can certainly see him in a few years as a DH for an American Legaue team. The Brewers can't afford to make a mistake and sign a long term commitment for a player who could potentially break down very fast. Plus the crowd of free-agent first baseman after 2011 is large and will include albert Pujols & Ryan Howard. Fielder has come to appreciate Milwaukee and that's great but Milwaukee can't afford to be too sentimental when it comes to tying up long term dollars on one player.
The Bucks beat the Heat on Saturday. It's a nice win despite Miami being shorthanded. That's the nature of the beast in the NBA...with the grind of the regular season schedule...teams will be banged up and who have to take advantage of those situations and steal some wins. The Bucks will get another chance tonight in Miami.
Songs of The Day
Don't Want To Be Like That-Joe Jackson (1979) one of the more talented songwriters to come out of the late 70's new wave movement. this is from his underated 2nd Lp "I'm The Man" featuring the great bass work of Graham Maby.
Don't Worry Baby-Beach Boys (1964) the flip side of "I'll Get Around" features a Brian Wilson vocal on a song that he calls a homage to "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes, a song he says he's listened to hundreds of times. This is one of the "500 Songs that Shaped Rock" according to Rolling Stone.
