Thunder From Down Under

I don't know if Ted Davis has copyrighted that description of Andrew Bogut but he should and get the t-shirt sales going. If you havent noticed the Bucks are playing excellent basketball and the main reason is the development of the former Number 1 pick as a force on both ends of the floor. He had a huge game against the Knicks the other night with 26 point, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks. That's only been done a handful of times since 2005. Last night Bogut had 26 points and 13 boards in less than 3 quarters of work. But it's on the defensive end that he has shined. With him rejecting stuff  inside that frees up Jennings, Ridnour,  Delfino and now Salmons to be more agressive defensively out front. There is alot of basketball to be played but don't be surprised if the Bucks make the playoffs and be one of those teams that other teams "don't want to play".

The WIAC basketball tournament continues tonight and the Pointer men & women both host Stout. Bob Semling's crew has been one of the top teams in D-3 all year and the women won 12 in a row at one point. I talked to women's coach Shirley Egner earlier this week and she was disappointed that they let a conference title slip away with their loss at La Crosse on Saturday but she believes her team will play well this week and earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.

At the Olympics ther US and Canada will play for gold in women's hockey today. And both the US and Canada are still alive for rematch in men's hockey as well. Team USA struggled a bit before eliminating Switzerland while the Canadians were putting the wood to Russia. I watched some of that game and Canada looked very good. If they meet the US for the gold I don't think their earlier loss will affect them at all. The semifinals will have the US Vs Finalns, Canada plays Slovakia. It's the first time the Slovaks will play for a medal since they became an independent nation.

The situation with the Racine Park basketball team is very troubling. In case you havent heard Park will forfiet 10 of its victories from this past season after it was discoverd that they were using players in those games that had been truant. They were the number 1 rated team in the state for most of the year. All of the players will be eligible for the WIAA tournament next week if they are in school. I think a tough message needs to be sent by the school district. If the coach and athletic director knew the players were not in school and let them play anyway (and if they didn't, they should have) they should lose their jobs. This a case of the tail wagging the dog. Interscholastic sports are an important part of the educational process but they are a privilege, not a right. You go to school...get passing grades and you get to play. Forfeiting games already played is no punishment at all.  If a coach puts winning games first...he needs to go.

Boys basketball doubleheader action tonight on our sister station Foxsports1390 WRIG...DC Everest vs Rhinelander at 7...Wisconsin Rapids at Wausau East to follow.

Songs of the Day (from my I-Pod)

Drivers Seat- Sniff n The Tears (1978) a good ear-worm song with a killer hook and hypnotic beat...a classic one-hit wonder.

Drivin Wheel-Foghat (1976) one of the great Blues-Rock bands of the 70's. It's said that the guys who made "This is Spinal Tap" used Foghat for alot of their stories.
