The Central Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame names it's 2010 class yesterday. The 4 inductees for this year are Louis "Bud Heyman", Dan Thompson, Tom Lechnir and Ron Carpenter. Heyman was one of the best athletes in the area back in the 40's and 50's. He played semi-pro football with the Wausau Muskies and minor league baseball against the like of Willie Mays. Alot of folks will remember him as the long time manager of the Trappe River Golf Course. Thompson was an excellent pitcher for Wausau West and the Wausau Legion back in the 70's before an arm injury curtailed his career. I hit against him a number of times and he could really bring it. Lechnir is the long time coach at UW-Oshkosh where the baseball rpogram has been playing at a high level for a long time...and Carpenter is the long-time organizer and coach of summer youth travel teams in Wausau. The dinner is January 28th at Dale's Weston Lanes. The Keynote Speaker is Brewers radio announcer Cory Provus.
We had former Packer great Jerry Kramer on the radio yesterday and he still is as sharp as a tack. He told us there 3 different vince Lombardi movie projects in the pipeline. Kramer has so far been snubbed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame which is a shame as he along with Forrest Gregg was one of the anchors of that great offensive line of the 60's.
The Wausau West Hockey team keeps on rolling...shutting out Marshfield last night 6-0. Hard to picture anyone around here beating them at this point.
We'll have a doubleheader of basketball tonight on our sister station Foxsports1390 WRIG. DC Everest visits Wausau East for both girls and boys basketball. Pre game at 5:30.
Songs of the Day
Doctor My Eyes-Jackson Browne (1972) a surprise top ten hit from the troubadors debut Lp...he wouldnt hit the top ten again until 1984. Did you know the Jackson Five did a version of this that was a hit in Europe in 1972?
Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is?-Chicago (1969) from the band's debut (one of my favorite Lps) before they became sappy ballad singers...this group could really rock. This is a Bobby Lamm pop tune and I've included a live video from the the late 80's.
