It sometimes seems like feel-good stories are hard to come by in the world of sports. With so much ugliness on display a story like Chris Capuano's is that much more invigorating. Capuano pitched 5 solid innings last night as the Brewers beat the Pirates 3-1. It was Capuano's first win since 2007 and his first since undergoing two Tommy John surgeries. I don't think many Brewer fans expected Capuano to return after he was shelved again last year in his comeback attempt...and what makes it even better he like playing in Milwaukee and was genuinely happy to get the comeback win in a Brewer uniform. Capuano is one of the good guys and to see his hard work validated is, at least for me, one of the best stories of the summer.
The Northwoods League All-Star game is tonight in Eau Claire. The Woodchucks are red-hot at the break and are certainly in a position to challenge for the second half title and a playoff spot. Eau Claire has already clinched one of the playoff spots in the South with their first half title...so the Chucks don't have to worry about them. They return to action Thursday night in Wisconsin Rapids before hosting the Rafters Friday night.
The Wausau Legion baseball team took two from RSW Monday night at Athletic Park winning a suspended game from July 7th 9-7 and taking the regularly scheduled game 9-4. Some fatherly bragging if I may. My son Cory threw a 9 inning complete game win in Game 2. It's not often you see a 9 inning complete game in Legion baseball. He was helped by some stellar defense and timely hitting as Post 10 moved to 22-14 on the season. We finish the regular season tonight (Tuesday) in Plover.
The Region 2 AAA Legion Tournament begins Thursday at Wausau's Athletic Park with three games on the schedule. RSW Faces Wisconsin Rapids at 1...Marshfield plays Plover at 4 and Stevens Point takes on Wausau at 7:30. Friday will see three games at Jack Torresani Field at Wausau East at 10:30, 1 & 4. The tournament returns to Athletic Park on Saturday with games at 1, 4 & 730, with the championship game on Sunday at 1. Come on out and see some of the best high school baseball players in the area compete to see who will get to the Legion State Tournament which begins July 28th in De Pere.
Songs of The Day (from My I-pod)
Get Closer-Linda Ronstadt (1982) from her rock phase...the power of Ronstadt's voice combined with the best seeion players in LA produced a polished gem...being used as a toothpaste commercial doesnt' help to remember when this sprang out of the radio back in the day.
Get Down Tonight-KC & Sunshine Band (1975) The power of music is that it can immediatly transport you to a place & time....summer of 1975...18 years old...Sneaky Pete's (now the Wausau Mine Company)... the first dance club in town...Every time I hear the opening of this tune I am back on the "perch" at Pete's checking out the action on the dance floor or shooting pool with my buddies. I can't explain the visceral reaction to this particular song...all I know is you heard it everywhere you went that summer.
