The beauty of sports is that you can't write the outcome before it happens. Hundreds of people make millions of dollars to go on tv or the radio to predict what will happen in the games we watch. Well, no one could have predicted this....You probably have never heard of John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. I know I hadn't until yesterday. Isner is an American...the 23rd seed at Wimbledon. Mahut is a French player who isn't even seeded. They started playing a match on Tuesday on one of the smaller side courts at the All-England club. Very few were paying attention. That has all changed as they are still playing....the same match...they have played for two days and stand tied. The numbers are staggering. The match has already lasted 10 hours...smashing the record for the longest match in tennis history. They've played 163 games...the final set has taken over seven hours and stands tied at 59-59. Isner has 98 aces..Mahut has 95 and they aren't finished! Someone will eventually lose. The rest of the competiors were glued to the tvs in the locker room...Roger Federer said it was beyond anything he'd ever seen calling it absoulutely amazing. They will try and finish today and tomorrow one of them will move on while the other will ice down and await the next tournament....these are not superstars...they are tennis players trying to earn a living...but  have etched their names together for eternity. The resilence and discipline of these two are what I love about sports. And the unpredictability of the games we play. 3 perfect games in a couple of months in baseball....the Americans score a very late goal to advance at the World Cup....and two unknown tennis players keeping their focus and competing for over ten hours because to do otherwise is not in their nature.

Landon Donovan did what all great players do. He came up big in the moment when he needed to. Team USA was facing elimination at the World Cup when Donovan scored to beat Algeria 1-0 and clinch a berth in the next round. Donovan has been preparing for this moment his entire life...some do it...some don't...he did.

John Hammond is proving to be a fine GM for the Bucks. The decisions he's made since taking the position...drafting Brandon Jennings...trading for John Salmons...have been stellar. And now two trades this week leading up to the NBA draft tonight look good as well. The Bucks have aquired Corey Maggette and Chris Douglas- Roberts without touching their core group of players. That is the mark of a good gm...can you improve your team without giving up players you think are important to the teams continued development. The Bucks pick 15th in tonight's draft.

The Woodchcuks moved into first place last night pounding Battle Creek 14-2 while Eau Claire was losing to Waterloo. The Chucks host Battle Creek again tonight.

The first statewide poll of the American Legion season is out and the Wausau Post 10 Bulldogs are ranked 2nd. The defending champs trail Green Bay Southwest in the poll. here's the list

Wausau was rained out in Merrill last night. They are off until this weekend when they travel to Stoughton for a Saturday doubleheader and Chippewa Falls for 2 on Sunday.
