The Old Man on The Ice

Chris Chelios is back in the NHL! The defenseman singed with the Atlanta Thrashers yesterday after spending the last few months with their top farm club in Chicago. Chelios is fourth in games played all-time and is an 11 time all-star. He has won three Stanley Cups and three  time Norris Trophy winner as the top defenseman in the league. He won a national Championship at Wisconsin in 1983! This will be his 26th year in the NHL. What's even more amazing is, he can still play. He currently has a plus-35 rating. The plus-minus rating is a measurement for defenseman. You get a point if youre on the ice when your team scores a goal...lose a point when youre on the ice and the other team scores. He also is a hard-nosed player reflected by his 2900 penalty minutes...almost two whole days in the box...over the course of his career.

Marquette was looking for one more signature win to get them into the NCAA men's basketball tournament. They got it last night hammering Louisville.

The Badgers and Bucks are back in action tonight...Wisconsin plays Iowa on WSAU while the Bucks host Washington on Foxsports1390 WRIG.

Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)

East of the Sun, West of The Moon-Diana Krall (2002) the Canadian pianist lends her warm vocals to a tune from the Great American Songbook. Her Live in Paris cd is outstanding. One of those odd romantic music matchups...she's married to Elvis Costello.

Easy Livin-Uriah Heep (1972) a hit for the English rock band from their breakthrough Lp "Demons & Wizards". The artwork on the LPs was sometimes more interesting than the music.
