You'll excuse Wausau West sports fans if they don't know which way to turn this weekend. Many of course will be in Madison as the West boys and the CW Storm play in the state hockey tournament. Across town the wrestling team will compete in the state team championships...while the boys basketball team continues tournament play Saturday night against Merrill in D-1 tournament play. The girls basketball team won their regular season finale last night and get set for their tournament opener next Tuesday against winless Rhinelander. It's one of those years where the athletic talent has coalesced into winning teams all over the place. Enjoy the ride...it's over too soon.
Wins and Losses in the early spring training games don't mean anything. Teams are experimenting with players and leaving some pitchers in too long to get their work in.The Brewers lost to the Giants in the Cactus League opener yesterday but there were alot of good signs. Rickie Weeks had a couple of hits and RBI's coming back from injury as Milwaukee pounded out 10 hits through the first 5 innings. Jeff Suppan pitcher 2 scoreless innings...Todd Coffey and Scott Schoeneweis added scoreless frames. A pitcher that will not make the team gave up most of the runs. Yovanni Gallardo gets the start today against Ben Sheets and the A's.
The D-3 hoops tournament begins today. The Pointer men host Carleton College tonight at the Quandt Fieldhouse. The women play Minnesota-Morris at De-Pere.
After a layoff of a couple of weeks the Central Wisconsin Saints Junior Hockey team begin tournament play tonight in the Great Lakes League. It's a best of three series in Kenosha against the Wisconsin Rampage. I'll be with the team watching my son play this weekend so I won't be posting until Monday. Enjoy Your weekend.
Songs of the Day (from my I-Pod)
Ebony Eyes-Bob Welch (1977) the former guitarist from Fleetwood Mac hit big with his "French Kiss" Lp. The shimmering pop tunes were perfect for the radio. Check out the hair and clothes in this promotional video for the tune....this is pre-MTV. Notice his record company also spelled his name wrong!
Ebony Eyes-Everly Brothers (1961) A totally different song. It's one of those "death"songs that were popular in the 50's and late 60's. Here's a medley from their reunion show in London.
