Go Big Red??!!

Posted by Tom King on

It was the wrong Big Red this time as Cornell hammered the Badgers yesterday in the NCAA Tournament. Led Ryan Wittman, The son of former NBA guard Randy Wittman, the Ivy League champions made short work of a Badger team that struggled at the end of the season.  Cornell is the first Ivy League team to advance to the Sweet Sixteen since Penn made the Final Four in 1979 losing to Magic Johnson and Michigan State. The Badger women were also knocked out yesterday losing to Vermont. They had their second best record ever this year but it meant nothing in the tournament.

The Badger hockey team gets the Number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. They play Vermont on Friday and if they win will probably get a re-match with St. Cloud State. The Huskies shoutout the Badgers last week in the WCHA Tournament.

In case you missed it, the UWSP men's basketball team won the D-3 National Title Saturday beating Williams College. Matt Moses was named the Outstanding player of the Tournament and Jared Jenkins joined Moses on the All-Tournament team.

Jimmie Johnson gets his first win ever at Bristol. Scott Wimmer had the top finish of wisconsin drivers in the Nationwide Race Saturday finishing 10th. He 's driving the car that Danica Patrick drives whne she's not Indy-racing.

The Bucks roll on. Despite Andrew Bogut on the bench in foul trouble...they beat Denver on the road Saturday. The Nuggets had been 30-5 on their home court. The Bucks host Atlanta tonight.

The Twins keep Joe Mauer....8 years, 184 million. The Twins had to keep their most popular player as they head to their new stadium and alot of high hopes this year despite the loss of closer Joe Nathan for the season.

Congrats to Wausau West and Wausau Newman as they head to the Girls State Basketball Tournament later this week. It's the first trip to State for the Warriors. Coach Pat Galligan is a good guy and Jessica Waldvogel is one of the toughest players I've ever seen. She's like a smaller version of Amanda Nechuta. They should compete well.

Tiger did an interview yesterday. Do you care?

Songs of he Day- (from my I-pod)

Every Man A King-Randy Newman (1974) Newman channels Huey Long on his concept Lp about the South "Good Ole Boys". Some people don't get Newman's sardonic humor but he does have an insight to the human condtion that is interesting.

Everytime I Turn Around(Back In Love Again)-LTD (1977) a real funky tune from the Disco years.
