When I was a kid I had a transistor radio. Long before I-pods and Phones that can download any song or program you want....that radio would connect you with music, sports, news and anything else you could pull in. At night in the summer that radio would pull in voices from all over the country. I thought of that today when I saw the passing of Ernie Harwell at the age of 92. Harwell was the radio voice of the Detroit Tigers for decades and my little transistor radio would pull in WJR out of the Motor City and the smooth as butter voice describing the play of giants like McClain, Kaline, Norm Cash and Bill Freehan and scrappy Dick McAullife (who i modeled my batting stance after). The other thing about that time was that after a championship season teams would release record albums recounting the season much like they do with DVDs now. I found a partial recording of the Tigers Championship season Lp on you tube and thought I would share it with you. This team did alot to sooth a troubled city in that hot and nasty summer of 1968. It's not the same as listening under the covers to my little transistor but it sure brings back some memories.

The Brewers finally had their bats wake up last night scoring 9 in the second inning of an 11-6 win. Prince Fielder even hit a home run. It looks like it might be an all or nothing year.

Joe Pavelski had an assist last night as the Sharks beat the Wings to take a 3-0 lead in that series. After years of playoff disappointments it looks like this might be San Jose's year.

Five Guys Named Moe-Louis Jordan...I picked up on this guy after hearing Joe Jackson's tribute to Jive in 1981. Jordan released a series of jive & swing records in the 40's that were very popular. They even wrote a hit Broadway show based on this.
