The Milwaukee Brewers need to bite the bullet and realize that Trevor Hoffman can no longer be counted on to close games. He blew his fifth save of the season yesterday as the Reds rallied in the 9th. Hoffman gave up 4 hits and a walk without recording an out. What to do with him? well, if he can't close there going to have to release him. He's really not suited for middle relief and besides thay already have jeff suppan for mop-up duty. You can continue to throw good money after bad by running him out there but as happend with Derrick turnbow before him...the Brewer fans won't stand for it.
It hasnt been a good week for closers. Mariano Rivera blew his second straight save last night as Boston rallied to beat the Yankees.
The Pointer baseball team enters D-3 tournament play today against St Scholastica of Duluth. The game is one of 3 in Whitewater.
The Wausau West baseball team, got good pitching from John Roberts and Adam Kramer in a 9-1 win over East on Tuesday. The West girls track team was competing next door and won the Wisconsin Valley Conference meet. Spash took the boys title.
The Wausau East girls soccer team won the Valley Conference crown with a victory over Stevens Point yesterday.
Stevens Point is looking for a new hockey coach. Mikhail Salienko has some new job duties at Sentry insurance that will no longer allow him to coach. The Panthers made the state tournament in 2009. Salienko has been the head man for three years.
The Gregg Allman show was a treat last night at the Grand Theater. you can tell the passion that Allman has for R&B music. The show was heavy on Stax/Volt type southern R & B including horn drenched re-workings of Allman Brothers tunes like Whipping Post and Statesboro Blues. In fact..it may have been the happiest version of Statesboro Blues I've ever heard. His band was stellar with each member getting a chance to shine with extended solos. And, Allman's bluesy voice was as strong as ever. Thanks PAF for an excellent show!
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Fool To Cry-Rolling Stones (1976) they don't do too many ballads but this is a good one...featuring Nicky Hopkins great piano work.
Fooled Around And Fell In Love (1976) Elvin Bishop plays guitar. he doesnt have a good singing voice so he brought in the great Mickey Thomas to belt out this bluesy number which became a smash hit.
