It's D-3 Tournament Time

Posted by Tom King on

The Pointer baseball team showed they belonged in the D-3 tournament with a convincing 12-1 win over St. Scholastica in their opener yesterday. Rosholt native Jereny Richter hit his 10th homer of the season and Joel Delorit allowed just two hits over 7 innings for the win. The Pointers now face St. Thomas at 5pm today in a winners bracket game. Whitewater also won their opener as Merrill native Jordan Stine went 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Whitewater will play St. Scholastica today.

The Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball race could tighten up today as Stevens Point travels to Rhinelander and Wisconsin Rapids hosts Marshfield. DC Everest plays Wausau East and you can hear that game on Foxsports 1390 at 4:15.

I'm rather peeved that CBS has decided to cancel the tv Show "Numbers". I didnt understand many of the math concepts that they used to solve crimes but it was an interesting premise and the characters were well-drawn. The original Law & Order also got the ax and although it struggled at times it seemed to rebound this season with some good scripts.  My don't miss faves now are Fringe and Justified. If you havent discovered Justified yet its a drama on the FX channel featuring Timothy Oliphant (he played the sherriff on "Deadwood) as a trigger-happy US Marshall that gets transferred to his home area in Kentucky which re-opens alot of old wounds. We've never seen a show set in the redneck South before and it's characters are fascinating. Be advised that the show is pretty violent. Fringe finishes it's season tonight. It's the new X-Files and is fabulous!

Songs of the day  (from my Ipod)

Foolish Games-Jewel (1996) the singer-songwriter got a Grammy nomination for this tune from her debut cd which was also used in the movie " Batman & Robin".

Fooling Yourself-Styx (1977) a big hit from the "Grand Illusion" album. It's too bad Dennis DeYoung cant reconcile with the rest of the band.
