The Wisconsin Woodchucks signed a couple of local players to temporary contracts to start the season. Seth McMullen and Jamie Soyk will be with the Chucks when they open the season at Madison next Wednesday. McMullen, a Wausau West grad and Soyk who is from Abbotsford both played college baseball for Winona State. McMullen started at shortstop as a freshman and Soyk was the starting catcher. I have coached Seth in Legion baseball for the past three years and he was an instrumental part of our state title last season. I've got to believe when the Chucks coaches see him play up close they will quickly sign him up for the rest of the season. Remember you can hear all of the Woodchucks games this season on Foxsports1390, WRIG and WSAU AM&FM. All weekday and Saturday games will be on Foxsports 1390 WRIG and the Sunday games will be on WSAU. I'll be joining Chucks play-by-play man Adam Seidel in the booth for a number of games this summer.
Congrats to the Stevens Point high school baseball and softball teams as they both clinched Wisconsin Valley Conference Titles with victories yesterday.
The Brewers finally got what they expected from Randy Wolf when they signed him as a free agent. Wolf piched seven scoreless innings and was backed by two-run homers from Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks as they beat Houston last night at Miller Park. Chris Narveson gets the start tonight against Houston ace Roy Oswalt who is making his first start since demanding a trade over the weekend.
Songs of The Day- (From My I-pod)
For Free-Joni Mitchell (1970) from her excellent "Ladies From the Canyon" Lp comes this tune dedicated to all of the street musicians who hone their skills playing for spare change on the street corners of our cities.
For My Wedding-Don Henley (2000) haven't we been waiting for a better "wedding" song than the syrupy Paul Stookey tune that's been used for years? This heartfelt tune comes from his "Inside Job" cd. Their is also an excellent dvd about the making of this cd.
