It's rare that a professional athlete will retire voluntarily while he can still perform at a high level. Normally it's the other way around...athletes will hang on to the bitter end even after thier skills have diminished or injuries have made them a shell of what they once were. But once in awhile an athlete will say...I've had enough...and even the promise of millions of dollars is not enough to bring them back. The Atlanta Braves were eliminated from the playoffs earlier this week and everybody is talking about the end of Bobby Cox as Braves manager. Cox is retiring after a long run as the skipper of the team. Not so noticed is the end of the career of Billy Wagner. Wagner is hanging it up after many years with many teams but the thing is...he can still pitch at a high level. He's leaving millions on the table but he says he's had enough...has made enough...and doesnt want to miss anymore time away from his family and has other things he wants to accomplish with his life. For those of us who have had children, you realize that the time flys by and every missed summer is one that never comes back. It's easy to understand a major league baseball players regrets at all of the things he misses when his children are growing up. Wagner, ended this playoff run on the injured list so he could be excused if he said that he wants to come back next year and go out healthy, but I don't think that will happen. He seems sincere it his desire to move on. It's a rare thing that we don't see very often.

I'll be spinning the tunes for the event re-living my days in the booth at the Free Spirit and King's Knight in Wausau. Alot of people dress up for the event and all the money raised goes to help cancer patients at Aspirus. It's a blast so get your tickets in advance at our studios on the corner of 6th and Scott in Downtown Wausau. Tickets will also be available at the door. If you havent heard KC, Bee Gees, Earth, Wind & Fire, or Donna Summer in awhile come on out and re-learn the Bump, The Hustle or just gyrate around which is what most of the guys did anyway.

High School Soccer Tournament winners last night included Wausau West, DC Everest, Wisconsin Rapids, Rhinelander, Mosinee, Wausau Newman,  & Northland Lutheran.
