Packer coach Mike McCarthy is being roasted by some national pundits for not allowing the Bears to score a touchdown late in the Monday night game to allow Aaron Rodgers a chance to bring the team back. Instead Chicago was able to run down the clock and kick a last second field goal for the win. ESPN quoted Advanced NFL Stats in saying the Packers would have had a 10 per cent chance to win had they intentionally given up the late TD-but McCarthy cut those chances down to three-percent. He thought he Packer defense could force a turnover. I'm not sure it's in a coach's DNA to have his team lay down and allow the opponent to score without putting up a fight even if it may help your own team. I will not fault McCarthy for letting his defense try and do their jobs and let the chips fall where they may. It's the difference between winning at all costs and feeling good about the way you win.
Auditions will be held tonight for the "Squad Six" cheering section at Milwaukee Bucks home games. Andrew Bogut has again bought 100 tickets in the stadium's lower level. And those chosen would have to scream and yell for the Bucks. The group impressed the team and it's opponents last year with their loud chants and songs. Bogut will be on hand for the tryouts tonight which take place at the Cousins Center in Saint Francis where the Bucks are having training camp.
The Brewers took two from the uninspired Mets last night. Buster Olney reported yesterday on espn.com that Ken Macha will probably be replaced after the season and Willie Randolph would be considered for the job. The former Mets head man has been a coach for Macha the last couple of years and wants to manage again although it's thought he would look at one of the other managerial jobs that will undoubtdebly become available.
Songs of the Day (from my I-pod)
Going Up The Country-Canned Heat (1969) the unofficial theme song of Woodstock...far out and groovy, man.
Golden Boy-Natalie Merchant (2001) from her outstanding Cd "Motherland" comes this look at fleeting fame. Love her voice!
