The Wisconsin company that made bicycles for Lance Armstrong says it stands behind the former seven-time winner of the Tour de France. The Trek Corporation of Waterloo said this week that it's had a long standing relationship with Armstrong and his foundation-and the company hopes he will still be able to compete and make a positive contribution to his sport. Armstrong has now sid he will try to have an arbitrator overturn last week's decision by the us Anti-Doping Agency to ban him from pro cycling. Trek says Armstrong has made remarkable contributions to the sports and the battle against cancer.
I agree that Armstrong should be strongly commended for his work in the fight against cancer and I hope his very public battle with the steroid police doesnt affect the work of his foundation. I also believe that if this is not the witch hunt he claims and that he did cheat and use performace enhancing drugs (in a sports where you would clearly get an advantage over competitors that were not using) I believe the ban is appropriate.
Look, I could care less about bike racing as a sport. Most Americans don't care about bike racing. I think we do care about competing on a level playing field and telling the truth. If all of his former teammates who are accusing him of cheating are making it up, they should be banned...but if Lance Armstrong has been wearing the mantle of Golden Boy all these years while living a lie...I have no mercy for him or his reputation.
A final test tonight for the young players trying to make the Packer team. They will get most of the playing time and both Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson said this week that you can make the team with a good performance tonight. What you can also do is set yourself up to be picked up by another team that is not as deep as Green Bay.
Sports Illustrated football guru Peter King has picked the Packers to beat the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. Obviously pre season Super Bowls are useless in the grand scheme of things. So many things happen during a season. Does anyone really think that Peyton Manning and his surgically repaired neck are going to play the entire season? What if the Packer injury situation continues into the regualr season? There are any number of teams that could be in the hunt come January...including a team that no one has on their radar right now. Do I know who that team is?...No...and anybody who says they do is just selling you snake oil.
Songs of The Day (from My I-pod) Highway 61 Revisited was released on this day in 1965...here are a couple of classics from it
Desolation Row-Bob Dylan (1965) You could listen to this a hundred times (and i'm sure people have) and still not figured out all of the imagery.
Like A Rolling Stone-Bob Dylan (1965) one of those songs that changed everything.
