How Important Is Game 1?

Posted by Tom King on

There is a difference of opinion on how important it is to win Game 1 of a seven game series. Some say you need to get that first one...other say it's not that big a deal, its more important what adjustments are made in Games 2 & 3. Oklahoma City beat Miami in Game 1 of the NBA Finals last night 105-94. I personally think a win in Game 1 is important..especially for a young team like the Thunder. It sets a tone and tells the players that they can beat Lebron James and Dwanye Wade on the sports biggest stage and if you do it once, why not again and again. No doubt the Heat can still win this thing but a huge second half comeback by the Thunder tells me that they are ready to take the next step. BTW, James played a great fourth quarter...Kevin Durant was just as good, and he has a better team around him.

The Brewers wasted an excellent outing from Zach Grienke last night in losing to KC 2-1. Luias Mendoza silenced the Milwaukee bats and K-Rod gave up another late run. Greinke pitched seven innings giving up just 1 run and striking out 8. The two teams play again tonight.

The Stevens Point high school baseball team was knocked out of the WIAA state baseball tournament last night. Sun Prairie beat them 4-3 in the D-1 semi-final. The SPASH players now seperate into two Legion teams for the summer...some guys to Stevens Point Post 6 and the others to the Plover squad...both of those teams will be good. Our Wausau team will play both numerous times. We also have Sun Prairie on the schedule in July .

The Wausau Legion Post 10 Bulldogs face RSW tonight at Athletic Park at 7.

Songs of The day   (from my I-pod)

Jelly Jelly-Allman Brothers Band (1973) from the classic "Brothers & Sisters LP comes this old blues song re-worked by the boys...Dickey Betts is great and the piano solo from Chuck Leavall and organ from Gregg  is far out and groovy man.

Jemina Surrender-The Band (1970) an ignored track from a loaded LP but Levon's come-on is still a gas. It's hard to find music this good anymore and certainly it doesnt get played on the radio.
