The Last Straw

I know I'm late to the party...the party of those who have gotten rid of their home phones. I know alot of people who do all of their business by cell phone and no longer have a hard line in their house. I still have mine as part of my bundle with internet and cable and have never had the energy or will to get rid of it. That has changed in the last few days. I am on the Wisconsin Do Not Call List...but unfortunatly politicians, political parties and those abominations called PACS do not have to abide by the Do Not Call List. So my hard line phone has been ringing every few minutes for the last two weeks with nothing but robo-calls...you know the ones...."Hi Tom...this is so-en-so from the _____, we want you to realize that Obama sucks or Romney's a liar...or Baldwin is the anti-christ...and on and on and on...well, yesterday was the straw that broke this camel's back. I got a robo-call from SARAH PALIN!!! As if anything that women could say would be relevant to anything. SARAH FREAKING PALIN!!!  So, my home phone will be going the way of the dinosaur. It's about as needed these days as a Sarah Palin endorsement.

Once again the Packers are banged up going into Sunday's game. Nelson, Perry, Shields, Kuhn, and Worthy all missed practice yesterday. I'm going to be at Sunday's game...and not in the worth of the press box. I'll be heading over to sit in the stands with old friends Kurt Eggebrecht and Jeff Adams. It's not often I want to leave the comfort of my couch and the High-Def big screen tv for a football game but I figured it was time for a trip to Lambeau. My only worry now is dealing with the inevitable hangover that I know is coming.

Congrats to UWSP for landing the 2014 NCAA  D-3 Womens Basketball Final Four. It will be held at Quandt Fieldhouse March 21-22 2014.

The Woodchucks are bringing back Erik Supplee as field manager next season and why not. He led them to a huge second half and a playoff berth last year. He seems to be a low-key guy with none of the drama of his predecessor. I also noticed driving by Athletic Park earlier this fall that they were replacing the infield. An excellent decision since the playing surface last season was horrible.

Merrill won their opener at the Volleyball state tournament. They play again tonight, Newman and Tomahawk play today as well.

Playoff football tonight includes La Crosse Logan at Marshfield, Medford at Waupaca, Nekoosa at Black River Falls, Rosholt at Edgar.

Songs Of The Day  (from my I-pod)

The Last Chance Texaco-Rickie Lee Jones (1978) a beautiful cut from her first album which was one of those magical albums that sort of appear out of nowhere. I heard Chuck E's in Love on the radio but the rest of the album was just as good if not better

The Last Day of June 1934-Al Stewart (1974) another history lesson from Mr. Stewart as he tells us of the Night of the Long Knives when Hitler consolidated his power and the fate of the world was set .
