Folks who follow high school sports know how difficult it is to win for an extended period of time. You lose your most experienced athletes every year . Most coaches will tell you they hope to be competitive every year and be in a position to play deep into a season. The idea that you could win a conference title 10 years straight and not lose a dual meet or head to head matchup in that time is an astounding feat and one that the Wausau EAst Lumberjack girls swim team accomplished last night. They won the Wisc Valley Conference meet for the 10th year in a row. To show you how dominant East was they finshed 71 points ahead of second place Wausau West. And West had a good team this year. Coach Derek Steinke attributes the success to the depth of the squad and the nice mix of seniors and underclassmen that East is able to field every year. It's not easy when you're expected to win but the Lumberjack swimmers have done it again. Congrats!
Volleyball sectional winners last night included Marshfield, Merrill, Tomahawk, Spencer, & Wausau Newman. They will play for a trip to state on Saturday.
The 100th WIAA State Cross Country Meet is Saturday at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
And the football playoffs continue tonight...Stevens Point at Appleton North, Holmen at Marshfield, Nekoosa at River Valley, Unity at Colby, Stratford at Spencer/Marshfield Columbus, Rosholt at Pacelli & Hilbert at Greenwood/Granton.
It looks like the Giants will do it again. I'm not sure that at the beginning of the season many people thought the Giants would be one of the last two teams standing and be up 2-0 in the World Series. Should their be an asterik since one of the main cogs for most of the season was Melky Cabrera who was suspended late in the season for PED use? He also was the MVP of the all-star game that gave the Giants home field advantage in the World Series.
I'm looking forward to the Badger-Mich State game tomorrow...a little payback for last year!
Songs of The Day (from my I-pod)
Lady Marmalade-LaBelle (1974) one of the funkiest tunes evah! What is Nona Hendryx wearing on her head?
Lady Of The Island-Crosby, Stills & Nash (1969) one of those super personal Graham Nash songs about his relationship with Joni Mitchell. He and Crosby exploring their vocal mixing. What makes it weird is that Crosby was involved with Mitchell too.
