The NFL Trade deadline is never very active. In fact, trades in the NFL don't happen very often. Not like hoops or baseball anyway. The Packers are very rarely mentioned in trade rumors either...especially since Ted Thompson took over as GM. He likes to keep his draft picks and build from within. Obviously that has worked very well...but he may have to move out of his comfort zone before this season's promise gets washed away in a tsunami of injuries and an punchless running game. 2 1/2 yards per carry is not going to get it done...and even with a pass happy team like the Packers...having a brusing running back that can move the pile between the tackles would be very desirable. They thought they had that with Cedric Benson but he's on the shelf and won't be back for the forseeable future. The rumors are that Green Bay might be interested in trading for Stephen Jackson. The Rams already have his eventual replacement in place and might be willing to deal jackson for a 4th or 5th rounder. Jackson is a consumate pro and the kind of punishing runner that can get the tough yards but can still break a big one every now and again. If I can get Jackson right now for a 4th round pick, I'd make that deal. There are times to trade and times to not trade...for the Packers right now...it's the former.
Congrats to DC Everest grad Kristen Churkey who has made a very succesful transition to college goal-keeper and is helping the Pointers put together a very fine season. She stopped a penalty shot yesterday and the Pointers advanced in the WIAC tournament with a 2-1 double overtime shoot-out win over La Crosse.
Chase Headly beat out Aramis Ramirez for the Gold Glove at 3rd base in the NL. Ramirez went over 3 months without an error...hard to figure how he didnt win.

Songs of The day (from my I-pod)
Land-Patti Smith (1975) the first time I put Horses by Patti Smith on the turntable in college I was puzzled...what the hell was this...poetry, snippets from soul oldies and scratchy, driving music that would come to be known as punk...the more I listened, especially to this cut, the more I became hypnotized...I could visualize this story in my head...it would make a hell of a movie...you cant listen to this just once...One of my favorite songs and all the wanna be punks that came after had to try and live up to this.
Land of 1000 Dances-Wilson Pickett (1966) he didnt do it first but he did it best..."Do yah no how to pony"indeed
