The Washington Nationals clinched a playoff spot last night. A team from our nations capitol hasnt made the MLB plahyoffs since 1933 and this franchise hasnt made the playoffs since 1981 when they were the Montral Expos. And, it was only a couple of years ago that they were the worst team in major  league baseball. Good drafts, key trades and even the much maligned signing of Jayson Werth is staring to pay dividends as well. The Nationals could make a deep playoff run but unless they win it all we will forever be talking about their ill-advised decision to shut down their best pitcher Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg is healthy but GM Mike Rizzo is worried about future injury as he comes back from Tommy John surgery. I've talked about this before and in my opinion and the opinion of most other observers this decision is wrong.

The Nationals welcome in the Brewers for a four game series strating tonight and unfortunatly they still have something to play for. They are battling the Reds for best record in the National League so Milwaukee will have to bring their A game and stay hot. tonight will be a key start for Shaun Marcum as he has struggled since coming off the DL.

Milwaukee is still 2 1/2 games back of St. Louis but did move past LA with their comeback win last night.

The Reds also clinced a playoff spot last night. They certainly are a tough matchup for anybody this year as well.

Wow did the Giants dismantle the Panthers last night. Cam Newton was intercepted three times. Not good when he's my starting Fantasy Football QB!

An important strech of games for the Wausau East Lumberjack football team begins tonight at Appleton West. They have to win 2 or maybe even three of the next four games to make the playoffs and this is one they really need. I'll have the game live tonight as game 1 of our doubleheader on Foxsports1390 at 6:45. That will be followed by DC Everest at Appleton EAst.
