The Wisconsin Track Coaches Association is having their Hall-Of-Fame induction ceremonies saturday afternoon and one of the inductees is Stevens Point high school grad Chris Solinsky. For those not that familiar with track Solinsky is one of the finest distance runners in US history and certainly (along with another former Spash grad Suzy Favor Hamilton) one of the greatest runners in Wisconsin history. He won the state cross country title three times...won 11 state medals, eight state titles and led the nation in low time on six different occasions. He was a first team All-American four times during a stellar career at the University of Wisconsin. he set state records in the indoor 1600m, the indoor 2-mile and the outdoor 3200m and (along with Matt Tegankamp) was the first to go under 4 minutes in the mile in Wisconsin on May 6 2006. And on May 1st 2010 Solinsky made his debut in the 10,000 meters at a race in California and broke the American record by 14 seconds at 26:59.6. He was the first non-African to break 27 minutes for the 10,000 meters.
The induction is being held at the Crown Plaza in Milwaukee and record-setting sprinter Joanna Schultz of Holmen will also be going in. Former Olympic gold medalist dan O'Brien will give the keynote speech.
Well, it certainly didnt take long for an indefinite suspension to end for Gregg Williams. One of the key figures in the Bountygate scandal in new Orleans and the man heard on tape exhorting his players to injure opponents is back in the NFL. He was hired yesterday by the Tennesse Titans after his suspension was lifted. Really Tennesse? This is the guy who you want to lead your defense. Who ever approved this hire should be ashamed of himself and if you think that's too harsh...go back and listen to the tape (WARNING: THERE IS MUCH PROFANITY)
Sophomore goaltender Nate Siclovan has been the real deal for the Spash Panthers this season. He kept Wausau West off the scoreboard last night as the Panthers clinched the Valley Conference title with a 2-0 win at KB Willet Arena. Its their first conference title since 2007. If the two teams meet again it would be in the sectional championship game in a couple of weeks.
I'll have a couple of boys basketball games the next two days. Tonight its Marshfield at Wausau East as the first part of out doubleheader and then Saturday East plays a tough non-conference game at Rice Lake at 4pm. You can hear all the action on Foxsports AM 1390 & FM 93.9.
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
Lively Up Yourself-Bob Marley & The Wailers (1974) the opening track to his classic "Natty Dread" album. Don' be no drag mon!
Lives In The Balance-Jackson Browne (1986) one of my favorite albums from one of my favorite singer-songwriters. Written about the situation in Nicaraugua and the Iran-Contra affair. This is a splendid version featuring the harmonies of Crosby-Nash and the great Dave Lindley playing one of his many stringed instruments
