The Packers are sitting at 5-5 which is very un-Green Bay like for this time of year but the team isn’t anywhere near being out of the playoff hunt. The cellar dweller Minnesota Vikings come into town this weekend to wrap up the season series. Here is what the Packers need to do to get their first win without Aaron Rodgers.
1. Takeaways- The Packers need the big play on defense to help out an offense that has only put up 26 points the last two weeks. If Sam Shields is back this week and Micah Hyde is feeling better after sitting out Thursday’s practice the corner spot will have nice depth even though Casey Hayward got put on injured reserve.
2. Contain AP- With Aaron Rodgers at the helm Peterson could get his yards with an offense to match. He is a bit banged up right now but I would take a lower percentage Peterson over a lot of other running backs in the game. Make Christian Ponder beat you.
3. 3 headed backfield- I won’t go as far to say Eddie Lacey has hit a rookie wall but rotating the backs on Sunday will keep these guys fresh for the rest of the year. James Starks was on the field for a handful of plays last week while there was a Jonathan Franklin siting. I would love to see Franklin get some touches tomorrow.
This is the first time I feel confident about the Pack bringing home a W since Rodgers has been out. Packers 24-20
