Boehner, Cantor Will Support Obama on Syria

by Jerry Bader

He does temper the support by saying "he'll support the President's call for action." It's unclear what Boehner will support in terms of an actual resolution.

Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he too will support the President's call for action. This is going to be an interesting debate. Many lawmakers fear that our allies won't trust us to be there for them in a time of need if Congress doesn't back President Obama now; it's the "America's credibility" argument. Boehner argues that the use of chemical weapons requires a response.

But shouldn't Congress first be satisfied that the action will be appropriate and effective before signing off on it? I feel the only issue Congress should address is whether it feels any military action should achieve a clearly stated objective. Will that be the case here?
