UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater have been two of the best D-3 baseball programs in the country. They, of course, are quite familiar with each other. Before finishing 2 & 3 behind upstart La Crosse in 2012...the Pointers and Warhawks traded WIAC titles in 2011,2010 & 2009..with the other finishing second. Both teams are in the NCAA D-3 regional which began yesterday in Whitewater. Both teams won and will face off tonight in the winners bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
The Pointers came back from an early deficit to beat Benedictine 6-5 in 10 innings. WIAC Pitcher of The Year JP Feyereisen gave up a two-out, three run homer in the first and lasted just 5 2/3 allowing five runs...but two two relievers (Tyler Flood & Luke Watson) allowed just one hit the rest of the way. Ryan Schilter drove in the game-winner in the 10th.
Whitewater rode a complete game from senior Tom Kerndt to a 2-0 win over Case Western. The tournament sets up nicely now as the #1 seed, St Thomas, suffered a first game loss to St. Scholastica.
Game time is 6:30 tonight in Whitewater.
K-ROD is back. Can this mean the end of John Axford's tenure in Milwaukee? The Brewers made room on the roster by sending Blake Lalli back to AAA Nashville. I would imagine that Rodriguez would work in the 8th or 9th inning. Despite the fans distate for the Brewer relievers...they havent been bad recently. Except for Axford. Alfredo Figaro & Burke Badenhop have been very good in May. The bullpen ERA is very good this month...but everything gets magnified when you cough up a late lead.
Good to see the NBA owners show a little loyalty. They decided to stay in Sacramento instead of chasing the larger monetary amount offered by Seattle. Seattle deserves a team..but not at the expense of Sacramento where they have supported a mostly losing team very well. The Maloof brothers ran the team into the ground and it will be interesting to see if new ownership can make the Kings contenders again.
Triple-header high school baseball tonight on FoxsportsAM1390 & FM 93.9...DC Everest and Wausau West square off in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00...followed by Wausau East and Merrill.
Songs Of The Day (from my I-pod)
Love Me Two Times-Doors (1967) written by guitarist Robbie Krieger about a soldier shipping out to Viet Nam. It was the second single from the Strange Days LP
Love Minus Zero/No Limit-Bob Dylan (1965) one of the greatest love songs ever written...from the "Bringing It All Back Home" album originally...but here is a version from the infamous Rolling Thunder Revue of 1975
