Distractions, Distractions

by Tom King

The Biogenesis scandal is threatening to derail attention from what is shaping up to be a dandy 2nd half of the baseball season. Pennant races abound and I'm afraid that after next week's All-Star break will will have to deal with the fall-out of the suspensions that seem to be coming for up to 20 major leaguers, some of whom will be involved in those pennant races.

ESPn reported yesterday that several players, including Ryan Braun will be suspended after the All-Star Game. An MLB spokesman called that report "premature". Braun refused to comment on the report which also said that he wouldnt answer the questions of baseball's investigators.

I don't know about you but I'm getting past the point of caring who did what during the "steroid years". I want to concentrate on what's happening now without the constant distraction of this stuff. As long as the testing procedures are in place to keep the game "clean" going forward can't we focus on that. I'm not holding my breath.

On the field...Willy Peralta tossed a complete game three hitter as the Brewers beat Cincy 2-0. It was the first complete game by a Brewer pitcher since April of 2011. Milwaukee has won 3-4 and play Cincy again this afternoon. You can hear the game on WSAU at 12:35

The Woodchucks got a grand slam from Josh Goosen-Brown in a 12-8 win over Green Bay at Wausau's Athletic Park. The Chucks host Madison tonight. I'll be in the booth with Jim sannes for tonights game which begins at 6:15 on Foxsports AM1390 & FM 93.9.

The Marshfield Legion baseball team dropped Plover from the ranks of the unbeaten in the Valley Legion League with a 15-13 win last night. Post 54 leads Plover by a half game in the standings. Wausau will play at Marshfield on Thursday. tonight Stevens Point is at RSW.
