Did you see the cover of this weeks Sports Illustrated? It's a picture of Josh Gasser and Frank Kaminsky celebrating as the Wisconsin Badger basketball team advanced to the Final Four. Its pure unadulterated joy as they run toward their bench to celebrate with their teammates. Its the reason athletes play sports. Oh there are some who are in it for the money or the fleeting glory but a true athlete plays for the competiton and the camaraderie of being a part of a successful team. You have heard most of them this week talk about how this goal was set during the summer workouts and into the fall...it was hardened during the mid season slump when some fans jumped off the band-wagon and the social media was abuzz with crazy talk. You can't experience joy like this without the bitterness of adversity. This team plays for each other and their coaches and we as fans get to come along for the ride. I've watched Badger basketball for a long time. I saw plenty of down times before Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan built this program into what it is. Win or lose this weekend I will enjoy the games and know that this is a team you can feel good rooting for. And most of them will be back next year!
The Brewers get to visit Fenway today as the Red Sox raise last years championship banner and get their rings. Milwaukee will try and get their offense going against Jake Peavy. Marco Estrada, who had an excellent spring gets his first start for the Brewers. You can hear the game on WSAU starting at 1230.
Happy Birthday to my dad who turns 93 on Saturday. As we drive past the Athletic Park renovations he tells me that this is the 3rd incarnation of grandstands he has seen. The first one was burned down by the son of the fire chief decades ago. Looking forward to checking out the new digs in a couple of months.
