Time To Regroup

by Tom King

The Brewers enter the All-Star break with a record of 38-56. Only the hapless Marlins have a worse winning percentage in the National League. Obviously the injuries have played the main role in keeping the team in last place. But no one will feel sorry for Ron Roenicke and the Brewer players. It's a win now mentality in most of pro sports. Very few teams take a long term view like Houston is doing this year...knowing they were going to be bad....in order to get good a few years down the road.

Milwaukee has had some high points in this dismal first half. The two biggest ones will be at Citi Field in New York for tomorrows nights All-Star game. Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez are well deserving of their All-Star slots. Segura is leading the National League in hits at the break with 121. Gomez should at least be in the discussion for MVP. The Brewers have been rewarded for the perserverance with Gomez who looked lost as recently as two years ago. And the blossoming of Segura means even fans who didnt like the Zach Greinke trade at the time have to admit now it was the right move.

The bullpen has been pretty good for the most part but we'll see if they decide to make some deals before the trade deadline which is the end of this month. I would imagine some teams in the pennant race could covet some of the pieces that the Brewers have.

Home run Derby tonight and the All-Star game tomorrow.

Brewer prospect Jimmy Nelson pitched a scoreless inning in the Futures Game which was played last night at Citi Field. The US beat the World 4-2.

The Bucks lost out on Jeff Teague when Atlanta matched the offer. That means there is a srtrong possibility that Brandon Jennings could be coming back. He hasnt found the free agent  market very receptive. The Bucks Summer League team is 2-0 after beating New Orleans yesterday. They play Golden State tomorrow.

The Wausau Post 10 Legion Bulldogs broke a six game losing streak over the weekend winning three of four. They swept Marinette on saturday and split with Green Bay Southwest on Sunday. The Bulldogs will host Plover on Tuesday night at 7pm at Athletic Park.
