NEWS BLOG (WSAU) I’m
almost certain that Elliot Spitzer will be the next comptroller in
This a new low for arrogance of power. Men who can’t control themselves are seeking to control us.
Consider Spitzer. Even before the prostitution scandal became public, he was known to friend and foe as arrogant and self-righteous. He was overly aggressive and hostile towards white collar crime. (There were cheers on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange when he resigned.) Spitzer used his New York State Police security detail to provide cover for his rendezvous with his call girl. A man who’s wife cant trust him now asks for our trust as he seeks public office.
Weiner has contempt for the general public – he literally things you’re stupid. He initially said his twitter account was hacked when he accidentally sent out incriminating pictures that were intended for an intern. His story was transparently false. He kept up the lie for a week before finally admitting what everyone knew.
Both of these men have name recognition, and they have backing of a political machine and big labor. Yet it still takes actual people to cast ballots and put these people in office. And I predict they’ll both win. Maybe voters want that smug assurance of ‘hey, I’m better than that guy.’
There’s an old saying that people get the government they deserve. Voters need to ask themselves why they’d want to inflict these candidates on themselves. As for me, I’d decided a long time ago that being moral and trustworthy is a prerequisite to consider voting for a candidate.
