THEATER PREVIEW (WSAU) My weekends have been filled with high school football from August to October. Not much time for the theater. (And I regret missing Central Wisconsin Area Community Theater's Young Frankenstein last month.) The basketball and hockey seasons will start at the end of this month, and I'll be back to doing D.C. Everest play-by-play several times a week.
These few weeks between sports seasons is perfect for as much live theater as possible.
So I'm seeing three plays in three days.
Wausau Community Theater's Next To Normal was very well sung... that's a very strong cast they've put together. I felt the play was manipulative ; many others who've seen it disagree (including the Tony Award voters at the theater guild). Decide for yourself and see it. There are performances at the Grand Theater Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2pm. Thursday night's crowd was very small. Hopefully they'll play to larger houses this weekend.
Tonight I'm off to Stevens Point to see UWSP's Carousel. It's one of the best musicals ever written, and should be a memorable night.
Tomorrow afternoon I'll get a second dose of Rodgers & Hammerstein with D.C. Everest's The Sound of Music.
I'll post a review of Carousel after tonight's show.
